It's been a while since we last heard from our intrepid explorer, Chance the Sheltie, so I thought I'd share this morning's experience.
For the past month, Chance has continued watching these large hairless canines as they went about their daily activities. During one exciting near-collision running into another room, Chance leapt valiantly onto the couch - right next to the large male! Time seemed to freeze, Chance watched him carefully, no one moved...
Slowly, Chance started to relax and was rewarded with some lovely petting from the primitive male. This isn't too bad, he thought. And so, Chance has begun the regular pattern of jumping (at a run with alarming speed) onto the couch to be near the one known as "Brian".
With this new trust between the two, Brian appeared to want to show Chance another of their strange rituals...this one involving a long piece of string attached to his neck. For the last few days, Chance dragged this totem around the house from time to time, getting used to the strange feeling.
But his patience finally paid off this morning as the natives decided it was time to let Chance enter the secret lair known as the front yard. Wearing his colorful necktie, Chance was carried out the front door, along with the natives and their simple canine companions, and reverently set down on the grass. After getting his bearings, Chance boldly struck out in a direction right behind the rest of the pack. The walk was exciting due to the numbers of other large natives taking their young ones off to the local tribal teachers, but he managed to stay with the pack throughout the neighborhood, once again surprising even himself with his bravery!
